The Edward River

The Edward River, its shores lined with giant river red gums, winds its way through Deniliquin as one of the town's best attractions.

Famous for its fishing, particularly for Murray Cod and Yellowbelly, water skiing, houseboat stays and sandy beaches, the Edward River offers a relaxing and peaceful experience for visitors - or an exhilarating one for waterskiers and wakeboarders in its dedicated ski zone!

Hire a houseboat or pontoon boat or relax in a canoe as you paddle through the forest teeming with birds and native wildlife, or float downstream from Willoughby's Beach  to Mcleans Beach on a tube.

Combine this with riverside camping and cabins, and you're all set for a real break.

It's easy to get onto the Edward River in Deni too, with three public boat ramps with trailer parking at McLeans Beachas, Sloane Street and Harfleur Street.

Waterskiers can join in Deni Boat Club's afternoon ski schools in a fun family atmosphere November to April with $3 learning rides for total novices right up to those who want to try out trick skis ($5).

The river around Deni is divided into a ski zone and a no-ski zone, so whether you want a peaceful connection or a wild ride, the Edward River has it for you.

A second ski zone is twenty minutes outside Deni at Benarca Bend. Near this zone is Greg Graham Reserve with a boat ramp and toilets.

Beaches

Our beaches are popular picnic venues because they boast easy access and modern facilities. At McLean Beach there’s a boat ramp, barbecue, seating, clean toilets, lots of car parking and a host of lovely little spots where you can toss a blanket and open the hamper. There is also easy access to Willoughby’s Beach which offers a natural bushland setting in the Murray Valley Regional Park.

Take it easy as you stroll along the Beach to Beach walk, which meanders along the Edward’s bank from McLean Beach to Willoughby’s Beach. Along the way, just for a few minutes, you are tantalisingly close to the shopping strip and coffee shops, before stepping into the majestic Island Sanctuary. Look!! There’s a mob of kangaroos grazing in their natural forest setting. You could be deep in the Aussie bush, yet you’re only a stone’s throw from the CBD. It’s a nature-lover’s paradise.
