From October to May the river is 'the place to be' providing endless hours of fun, skiing, wakeboarding, boating, canoeing or just floating from beach to beach. The river provides a great fishing experience and is regularly re-stocked with native Murray Cod and Yellowbelly.
Bring your own boat or canoe or if you prefer you can hire a pontoon boat and take the whole family for a pleasure cruise and BBQ on one of the many secluded beaches. You can also hire a canoe or take a three day canoe safari during which you will pass through the famous red gum forests and view the bird and wildlife along the journey from Edward River bridge through to Deniliquin.
The Edward is natural Australian beauty at its finest, while at the same time offering an unequalled range of aquatic experiences.
Our beaches are popular picnic venues because they boast easy access and modern facilities. At McLean Beach there’s a boat ramp, barbecue, seating, clean toilets, lots of car parking and a host of lovely little spots where you can toss a blanket and open the hamper. There is also easy access to Willoughby’s Beach which offers a natural bushland setting in the Murray Valley Regional Park.
Take it easy as you stroll along the Beach to Beach walk, which meanders along the Edward’s bank from McLean Beach to Willoughby’s Beach. Along the way, just for a few minutes, you are tantalisingly close to the shopping strip and coffee shops, before stepping into the majestic Island Sanctuary. Look!! There’s a mob of kangaroos grazing in their natural forest setting. You could be deep in the Aussie bush, yet you’re only a stone’s throw from the CBD. It’s a nature-lover’s paradise.
